North Korea confirmed yesterday’s missile test. According to a statement in the official North Korean media, a nuclear counterattack exercise was conducted under the leadership of the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un. The exercise, carried out in response to joint military exercises conducted by the US and South Korea in the region, reportedly tested super-large multiple rocket launchers with a diameter of 600 millimeters capable of carrying nuclear warheads, successfully hitting an island designated as a target 352 kilometers away.

The exercise, conducted within the framework of preparation for the highest-level nuclear attack alarm scenario, was stated to aim at “strengthening North Korea’s nuclear capacity both qualitatively and quantitatively.” It was emphasized that the exercise serves as “a clear warning to enemies.” The statement noted that the military activities of enemy forces aimed at destroying North Korea pose a risk to the country’s security, stating, “This undeniable fact requires North Korea to significantly and rapidly strengthen its military capacity to actively control the situation to ensure its own security and regional peace.”
