Giancarlo Esposito, star of the series ‘Breaking Bad,’ confessed to once planning his own murder due to financial difficulties. The 65-year-old American actor, who portrayed the character ‘Gus Fring’ for 26 episodes between 2009 and 2011, revealed that he was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2008 and had wild plans to support his children.

The renowned actor, who has four daughters from his former wife Joy McManigal, shared on a radio program, “My way out in my mind was, if someone commits suicide, would life insurance be paid out? My wife had no idea why I was asking this. I started planning. If someone were to kill me, if I were to die accidentally, my children would get the insurance.”

Esposito, who said, “I had four children. I wanted them to live a life. It was hard times. I literally thought about destroying myself just so they could survive,” while viewing death as a way out, mentioned that he didn’t want to cause a lifelong trauma for his children.

The actor, referring to ‘Breaking Bad’ as the light at the end of the tunnel, joined the series a year after the period when he faced financial troubles and even planned his own murder, and his global stardom began to shine.

His role in ‘Breaking Bad’ opened the doors to series such as ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘The Boys,’ ‘The Gentlemen,’ and ‘Parish,’ significantly altering the course of his career.

Esposito also portrayed the role of ‘Gus’ for 34 episodes in the spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul,’ which tells the previous story of ‘Breaking Bad.’
