The U.S. Senate approved a total of $95 billion in foreign aid, including $61 billion to Ukraine and $26 billion to Israel, and sent it to the White House.

The foreign aid package, which was sent to the Senate last weekend after being approved by the House of Representatives, was passed in the Senate with 78 yes votes and 18 no votes in a late-night vote.

The package, which includes four separate bills and was consolidated into a single package in the Senate, received opposition from some senators, including independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who opposed the support to Israel, and some Republican senators who opposed the support to Ukraine, resulting in their no votes.

Following Senate approval, the package sent to the White House includes $61 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, $26 billion in military aid to Israel, with $9 billion allocated for humanitarian aid in war zones including Gaza, and $8.1 billion allocated for support to the Indo-Pacific region (including Taiwan).

Approval for TikTok Ban

The final bill included in the approved package by the Senate also opens the way for the freezing of Russian assets in the U.S. for use in aid to Ukraine, as well as the ban on TikTok in the U.S. The U.S. House of Representatives had previously approved a bill over the weekend to effectively ban the social media platform TikTok in the U.S. The ban would go into effect if the platform is not acquired by an American company.
